IPtimize Paves Way for Cost-Effective Communications at Brannan Sand & Gravel

The Company: Denver-based Brannan Sand & Gravel was founded in 1906 and has been constructing roads and parking lots ever since. Today, Brannan is the second largest asphalt paving contractor that has completed a broad array of pavement projects, ranging from Denver International Airport to the parking lot of the local convenience store. The company has offices located in Denver, Lafayette, Englewood and Idaho Springs to serve the Denver metropolitan market in Colorado.

Situation Analysis: In September 2003, Brannan Sand & Gravel Co. officially broke ground for construction of its new world headquarters. The site is east of York Street on the south side of Highway 224 in Adams County.  As the company mapped out plans to move into the new office, management determined the time was right to think about upgrading its communications environment. A primary concern was connecting its remote offices with a fully networked infrastructure for voice and data applications.

 Scope of the IPtimize Solution: With the company’s emphasis on low costs and the need to leverage one network, Voice-over-IP (VoIP) was one of the recommendations made by IPtimize because of its ability to utilize the data infrastructure.

Besides low costs, Brannan also sought security and instant messaging. In terms of security, they chose IPtimize’s Internet Security Evaluation (ISE) as a simple, cost-effective solution for determining security vulnerabilities in real-time. ISE is a series of non-intrusive tests that determines a client’s level of exposure to attacks and also recommends a course of remediation. As an outcome, Brannan has elected to deploy the IPtimize Managed Firewall Service (MFS) to help maintain security policies.

 In meeting its other objective to “communicate without boundaries,” Brannan will use IPtimize’s Tagline service, providing the ability to know if associates are logged in on the network, and send them messages in real time. Tagline, a unified communications service trademarked by Verb Exchange, will allow Brannan to communicate in a variety of ways with associates. End-users can “read” email over the phone, receive voice messages in standard email accounts, receive faxes as PDF attachments in email, and control it all with simple voice commands or online. Other services to be provided to Brannan through IPtimize include Web hosting and Communications Support Services. A Communications Support Services engagement with IPtimize will permit Brannan the simplicity of having one point of coordination for all of their current and future circuit-based needs.
