John R. Evans, Chief Executive Officer.
Mr. Evans brings extensive senior management experience in the telecommunications industry and a proven track record for growing successful early-stage communications businesses. Mr. Evans was a founder, CEO and Chairman of Convergent Communications, Inc. where he directed the growth of the company from its inception in 1995 to an annualized run rate of over $200 million in revenues and 1,500 employees in 35 markets by the end of 1999. Convergent Communications was a value-added provider of integrated data and telephony solutions and enterprise network management for small to mid-sized businesses in 50 markets nationwide. From its IPO in July, 1999, Convergent reached a market capitalization peak of $400 million. Mr. Evans transitioned from his position in a control-equity transaction with the Texas Pacific Group in April 2000. A majority of Convergent’s business operations were acquired by Inter-Tel, Incorporated (Nasdaq: INTL) in January 2001.
From July 1991 to October 1995, Mr. Evans served as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of IntelCom Group Inc. (ICG) where he was instrumental in the early start-up operations directing capital raising, structure, mergers and acquisitions and all aspects of finance and corporate administration as the company grew from start up to over $100 million in annualized revenues and 1,000 employees.
Since 1999, Mr. Evans has directed Evans Capital Management, LLC, a closely-held private equity firm with interests in the communications industry. Evans Capital focuses its direct private investment in enterprises that develop differentiated service and technologies platforms for growth industries. Mr. Evans brings over 25 years of experience in identifying management capability and creating value from untapped market opportunities.
Mr. Evans served as Group Controller for Shaw Industries from 1988 to 1991 and held senior management positions with Nortel Networks from 1983 to 1988. He received his Chartered Accountancy in 1981 while at Coopers & Lybrand from 1978 to 1983. He received his Honors Bachelor of Commerce in 1978 from McMaster University. During his career, Mr. Evans has raised over $1.0 billion of financing for development stage, emerging-growth and micro-cap companies. Mr. Evans is a member of the Colorado Governor’s Commission on Science and Technology.
Jeffrey A. Veres, Chief Operating Officer.
Mr. Veres has over 20 years of experience in operations and project management in the communications industry. He has successfully founded, grown, and merged two companies in the business communications integration marketplace. Mr. Veres’ communications management experience includes business requirements analysis, design, implementation, project coordination, and maintenance. He has significant knowledge in all areas of communications such as cabling, voice networking, data networking, local area networking, metropolitan area networking, campus networking, Internet deployment, video conferencing, and telecommuting. He has also developed specialized expertise in disaster recovery planning, remote access, fiber optic networking, and wireless communications.
Mr. Veres’ telecom career began in 1980 with Mountain Bell (now Qwest Communications), in sales. He moved to American Bell (now AT&T / Lucent Technologies) at divestiture in 1983. In 1984 he returned to Mountain Bell Technologies to help build the data communications group, which merged into U S West Information Systems in 1985. During his tenure in the Bell system, Mr. Veres received training in all areas of communications technology. This training included courses ranging from basic telephony to traffic engineering. Mr. Veres also took courses in data communications networking. In 1987 he left the Bell system and founded JLV Enterprises Inc. JLV was a communications agency for U S West, and a systems integration company providing network services and data networking equipment for business networks. JLV grew to over 40 employees and installed communications networks throughout the country. Some of JLV's accomplishments included networking for large school districts, video conferencing networks for stockbrokers, national networks for major corporations, and numerous voice solutions for business clients.
To provide additional services to their growing client base, Random Access acquired JLV Enterprises Inc. in 1994. While at Random Access Mr. Veres held the position of Sr. VP of Advanced Technology Solutions, with seven different value-added service groups reporting to him in November 1995. After Random Access was acquired by Entex Information Systems, Mr. Veres started DMA Ventures, a US West sales agent and a systems integration firm, which he grew to over 40 employees. In October 1999, with the support of several business partners, DMA became part of a publicly traded company, PentaStar Communications, which at the time became the largest communications agent in the US. Mr. Veres received his Business degree from Arapahoe Community College in Denver, Colorado.
Clinton J. Wilson, Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
Mr. Wilson has over 25 years of senior sales and marketing management. He brings extensive experience in creating consultative revenue growth and developing effective sales teams. Mr. Wilson has built significant business partner relationships through over 12 years of direct client relationships with major carriers, ISPs, CLECs and large national accounts. His knowledge of converged voice and data networks, including equipment vendors and local exchange services, provides the foundation of IPtimize’s managed services and consulting marketing strategy.
In 2001, Mr. Wilson was President of InDigiNet, Inc., a Denver based data networking solutions provider. He has established significant market development experience, generating over $1 million in first-year sales. Prior to this engagement, he was the General Manager of AuraServ Communications, a venture-backed voice-over-IP service platform for SME clients.
Between 1997 and 2000, Mr. Wilson was a Vice President for Convergent Communications, Inc., where he worked directly with Mr. Evans, contributing to the growth of sales from startup to over $160 million. He was responsible for strategic product planning for the ?enterprise network carrier,? and established the sales strategy for the firm’s first 16 markets.
From 1992 to 1997, Mr. Wilson was the Vice President of Sales for ICG Communications, Inc., where he reported directly to the President and was responsible for the formation of the company’s national sales organization. Over this period, he grew the force to over 210 sales employees with an annual department budget of over $21 million, resulting in the rapid growth to roughly $500 million in annualized sales for the local exchange carrier. From 1992 to 1994, he was responsible for carrier sales for ICG Telecom. His industry experience includes positions with both MCI and AT&T. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Marketing from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1977.
Christopher M. Reim, Vice President of Finance.
Since early 2001, Mr. Reim has participated in the management and capital formation of portfolio companies for Evans Capital Management with John R. Evans. Mr. Reim brings significant financial management, capital markets and startup business development experience to Iptimize. Mr. Reim has managed over 40 capital transactions representing in excess of $700 million of debt and equity investment capital in private and public companies.
During 2000 and 2001, Mr. Reim co-founded and was President of AXS Wireless, Inc., a fixed wireless communications venture to offer advanced broadband data services to SME and residential clients. Utilizing unlicensed spectrum to provide last-mile access, the company was developed to integrate communications requirements with networked applications that improve productivity for small businesses.
From 1998 through late 2000, Mr. Reim was a senior associate with Cherokee Investment Partners, LLC, a private equity investment fund in Denver with over $800 million in assets under management. Cherokee is a value-oriented investor in corporate and real property assets in which it can strategically reposition the asset within a short investment holding period. Mr. Reim was responsible for the analysis, structuring and execution of investment transactions for the institutional fund.
From 1994 to 1998, Mr. Reim was the senior associate of the Technology Banking Group in the Corporate Finance Department of Hanifen, Imhoff, Inc., a Denver-based investment bank. At Hanifen, Mr. Reim was involved in both public and private equity and debt transactions and merger and acquisition assignments for communications and technology businesses nationwide. Mr. Reim was also previously associated in institutional investment management with Heitman Financial in Chicago and JMB Realty Corporation in New York City. Mr. Reim received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from The Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Business Administration in Finance from The University of Colorado at Boulder.
Hitendra “Sonny” Soni - Vice President & General Manager.
Mr. Soni, with his highly regarded technology business development and sales background, joined IPtimize in March 2004 as General Manager of the company's California-market startup venture.
Since 2002, he has been consulting for early-stage companies focused on delivering solutions that provide security, convergence and Internet Protocol (IP) migration to enterprises and service providers. Prior to this service, he was involved in a number of successful technology driven organizations, including business development support on behalf of two extremely successful Initial Public Offerings.
In 1997, he joined startup Accelerated Networks, a multi-service broadband access equipment company and was responsible for $46 million in revenue in the firm's first six quarters of product availability. He also played a pivotal role in establishing a strategic partnership with Siemens, including a significant investment by the global giant. In June 2000, Accelerated Networks executed an extremely successful IPO during a depressed market.
Prior to Accelerated Networks, Mr. Soni directed business development and channels at Xylan, a LAN/WAN and V-LAN switch-maker. After joining the firm in 1994 with the responsibility of creating worldwide OEM and channel sales, he contributed significantly to the generation of $29 million, $128 million and $220 million, respectively in the company’s first three years. Xylan, which executed a highly successful IPO in 1996, was eventually acquired by Alcatel for more than $2 billion.
In 1988, Mr. Soni was one of the founding members of Conexsys Communications, which is now one of the largest network security and infrastructure integrators in Canada. From 1984 through 1988, he was Network Architect for the communications infrastructure at CAE Electronics, one of the largest and most technologically advanced Canadian companies at that time.
Mr. Soni's academic background includes the Computer Technology (Control Data Institute, Toronto) and Bachelor of Commerce (South Gujarat University, India).
